Learning about possible business models for data-driven services

On Friday 1 March 2024, from 10.00 to 11.00 CET, the data.europa academy hosted the webinar ‘New business models for data-driven services’, exploring the topic of open data for public and private services and fostering sustainable open data ecosystems across Europe. Facilitated by two experts from The Lisbon Council, the interactive session attracted a diverse audience, counting over 500 registrants.

The webinar explored the potential reuse of open data from the public sector across various entities, introducing different business models for data-driven public services based on insights from the ‘New Business Models for Data-Driven Services’ discussion paper. Additionally, participants engaged in a discussion of the pre-event survey results, with introductory questions shared beforehand to encourage reflection on the topic and facilitate the exchange of business models within their respective organisations.

The session also explored the evolving landscape of open data, emphasising the growing importance of aligning data provisions with the preferences and needs of the end-user. While data providers historically prioritised organisational objectives, there is a notable shift towards catering to the demands of end-users. Nonetheless, the reuse of open data in Europe is still in its initial stages, and it needs further exploration and implementation to maximise its potential and benefit both the public and private sectors.

Attendees gained valuable insights into the opportunities for creating value in the private and public sector using open data, as well as the diverse business models leveraging public data resources. We extend our thanks to our engaged audience, speakers, and contributors. To learn more about the insights of this webinar, you can watch the recording and consult the slides on data.europa academy.
