Open data intermediaries are instrumental in enhancing public and private value generation from open data. They are “third-party actors who provide specialized resources and capabilities to (i) enhance the supply, flow, and/or use of open data and/or (ii) strengthen the relationships among various open data stakeholders” (Shaharudin et al., 2023). Nevertheless, existing and potential business models of open data intermediaries are still insufficiently understood and explored.

Based on in-progress research conducted under the ODECO project, this webinar aims to present and invite a discussion on the role of open data intermediaries, the archetypes of their current business models, and the illustrative case of Esri’s open data intermediation business model. Esri is a global leader in geospatial software that has long taken up the role of an open data intermediary.
