Looking back on the open environment data event in Ireland

Ireland uses open data to improve the environment

On 29 April 2019, the third session of the Open Data Impact Series took place in Dublin, Ireland. The topic of this session was 'how open data can improve the environment' and was organised by Derilinx - a provider of linked and open data solutions - in collaboration with the Open Data Unit of the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform. The Open Data Impact Series promotes awareness, adoption and use of open data in different sectors, and supports the publication of high-quality open data.

During the session, experts in the environmental field from private sector, academia, and government discussed the topic of how open data can improve the environment in three different panels:

  • Panel 1: Improving Services with Open Data - Focus on Water & Marin
  • Panel 2: Providing Insights into Energy
  • Panel 3: Supporting sustainability

In addition, participants discussed how open environment data is being adopted and used, what challenges users face, and what other environment data potentially could be made available.
