Summary of the EDP's Open Data Quality Workshop

The EDP team led a workshop on open data quality in Hamburg, Germany

On 25 and 26 March, the European Data Portal organised a two-day workshop on metadata and data quality in Hamburg, Germany. The workshop focused on standards, tools and practices of metadata, and data quality. Participants joined from across Europe: Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovenia.

The workshop began with a welcome speech from the Chief Digital Officer of the City of Hamburg, followed by presentations from the country representatives on their initiatives and approaches to ensuring a high-quality of open data publication throughout the country. The Publication Office of the EU Institutions was also invited to share the work that the European Commission is doing in the field of core vocabularies and the use of multi-lingual controlled vocabularies in the EU institutions.

The second day of the workshop enabled the participants to get an overview of the theoretical framework around data quality, the management of data portals and the use of FAIR-principles in assuring metadata and data quality. Additionally, the workshop facilitators presented various techniques and tools to improve data quality.
