State of Play of Interoperability in Europe - Report 2016

New report just published

The National Interoperability Framework Observatory (NIFO) of the European Commission has just published the report "State of Play of Interoperability in Europe 2016". The report, which was created with the support of the ISA2 programme, presents the highlights of the results of the 2016 NIFO monitoring exercise and compares them with previous years. The overall exercise shows that Member States would benefit from more guidance on how to improve the governance of their interoperability activities, also with regard to interoperability of Open Data.

The report also highlights the technology trends concerning interoperability initiatives that have been identified over the years. The European Commission shares these trends to allow Member States to profit from existing expertise and initiatives. The trends identified are:

  • Open Data and Open Technologies;
  • Cyber Security;
  • Cloud Computing;
  • Social Media;
  • Mobile technologies;
  • Big Data and Analytics.

For each technology trend, a brief overview of the main characteristics and some examples of Member States implementing these technologies are presented. For further information on the NIFO observatory please check the NIFO solutions page, and if you would like to exchange views with others working on this topic, please join the NIFO community.
