Cologne revised its Data Portal

More data and functionalities, enhancing the usability

In 2012 the German city of Cologne started by providing their Open Data on a Portal. With continuous growth and improvements in the meantime, after five years it was time for a major revision. The portal is being updated in two phases, of which the first has just been launched and the second will follow this autumn.

The recently presented first update focussed primarily on improving the design and usability of the portal, while also bringing the DKAN architecture up to date. For example the more numerous categories can now be found directly on the homepage and the search functionality has improved. At the moment over 1,000 datasets are available in a machine readable format which enhances the accessibility of the data. Furthermore it is now possible to submit a request for specific data, which the administration will process according to a published procedure.

The City of Cologne is planning to publish more data in the near future and will also share the Portal architecture with partnering municipalities such as Bonn and Wuppertal.
