Better travel planning with BrokenLifts.org

The website shows broken lifts in the public transport network of Berlin, Germany

Via BrokenLifts.org, users can obtain real-time information about lifts that are out of order at public transport stations in Berlin. Passengers with reduced mobility highly depend on working lifts when they use public transport. Therefore, the website gives an overview of lifts that are out of service and the status of the process of fixing them. BrokenLifts.org also provides additional information on upcoming disruptions, for example, due to construction work. This allows passengers with reduced mobility to plan their travel accordingly.

BrokenLifts was founded by the non-profit organisation Sozialhelden in 2013 to increase accessibility for people with reduced mobility and to lower the barriers of using public transport. The website uses open data from the Berlin-Brandenburg transport network, S-Bahn Berlin, and the Berlin transport authority to provide up-to-date information on broken lifts in the Berlin region.

BrokenLifts.org is one of the over 500 use cases published on the European Data Portal. If you are aware of another inspiring use case, share your experience and knowledge about different applications and websites using open data with the EDP via mail, Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn.
