On 6-7 October 2016, Open Data experts will come together in Madrid during the International Open Data Conference. Over 250 speakers from 42 countries will share their views and discuss the use of Open Data. With this year's motto 'Global objectives, local impact', the conference strives to work on the development of innovative solutions with a social and economic impact. For example, how Open Data can provide tangible applications in the field of education, transport, health or the industry.

Complementing the speakers, the organisation called for proposals from the Open Data community to organise sessions. Over 440 proposals from Open Data professionals had been received concerning workshops, round tables or other types of sessions. Based on these proposals, an extensive schedule of 76 sessions is set for the expected 1,200 participants to attend. During these smaller sessions, applications for real cases will be discussed such as disaster management, inequality, smart cities and many more subjects.

Being one of the biggest global events on Open Data, it is the perfect venue to meet experts from all over the world and to exchange views or best practices. The European Data Portal will be present at the exhibition with a booth and together with representatives of the European Commission, will join the Main Session "Regional talk - Europe" on Friday, October 7 from 08:45 to 09:45. In order to participate at this conference it is required to pre-register after which you will be contacted by the organisation in due course. The pre-registration can be done here.
