Public Consultation on the review of the PSI Directive

Consultation opened until 12 December

The deadline to reply to the public consultation on the review of the Public Sector Information (PSI) Directive is approaching: 12 December!

But why is the PSI Directive important? It provides the legal framework for a European market for government-held data (public sector information). The Directive is built around two key pillars of the internal market: transparency and fair competition.

This consultation intends to evaluate the implementation of the PSI Directive and seeks views on how to improve accessibility and re-use of public and publicly funded data. It also considers access to and re-use of private sector data of public interest.

This consultation is divided into three parts:

  1. The first part refers to the evaluation of the implementation and functioning of the current EU legislative framework on the re-use of government data.
  2. The second part deals with the possible improvements of this framework for the future.
  3. The third part reflects the current discussion on the possibility to allow public sector bodies to access and use of private sector data, whenever this would be justified by public interest considerations.

All interested parties, including governments, public sector data holders and users, commercial and non-commercial re-users, experts and academics as well as citizens are invited to share their views via the dedicated EU consultation portal until 12 December 2017. The consultation is available in all EU languages. Do not hesitate to have your say!
