A platform to increase food security and reduce crop losses

Plantwise is a global programme that supports farmers in dealing with plant pests and diseases

Plantwise is a global food security programme platform that is led by CABI, a non-for-profit organisation focused on agriculture. The platform aims to increase food security and to improve rural livelihoods by reducing crop losses through establishing and supporting a network of Plant clinics. The plant clinics act as a meeting place where farmers can get crop management recommendations and agricultural advice from trained plant doctors to deal with plant pests and diseases. Currently, there are over 3,700 plant clinics located in 34 countries around the world.

To support plant doctors in making the right diagnoses and recommendations, and to enable farmers to learn more about crop management, Plantwise created a global knowledge resource for plant health information called the Plantwise Knowledge Bank. This database combines global and local open access data about plant pests and diseases and provides clear information and recommendations on crop management for users.

Plantwise is one of the over 500 use cases published on the European Data Portal. If you are aware of another inspiring use case, share your experience and knowledge about different applications and websites using open data with the EDP via mail, Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn.
