Outcome of Design in Government Conference

The EDP's Esther Huyer spoke about the European perspective on citizen-centred digital government

On 18 November, the "Design in Government Conference" was held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The three-day event was part of the International Design in Government Community Programme and had several keynote speakers from across the world.

The European Data Portal's (EDP) Esther Huyer was one of the keynote speakers at the event. She spoke about the role of open data and data sharing for citizen-centred e-Governance in Europe. Other keynote speakers include:

  • Mithula Maik, Lead Design Researcher and founding member of the Canadian Digital Service (CDS), who spoke about focusing on the needs of the citizens and keeping in mind that the ability to create change depends on how well we craft our processes and how far we push existing conditions.
  • Ruud Veltenaar, a speaker, author and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Diplomat, who discussed the need to start thinking about what the end-user can expect from the government and what the digital transition will look like.
  • Audrey Tang, Digital Minister of Taiwan, who focused on digital social innovation in Taiwan and the importance of the human element when we discuss topics such as the Internet of Things, virtual reality, machine learning, and user experience.
