Shaping agricultural policy and outcomes with open data

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) is the joint international institution of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) and the European Union (EU). The institution focuses on agricultural innovation and how that can strengthen the resilience of agri-food systems and offer adaptation strategies to mitigate the impacts of climate change. The CTA operates under the framework of the Cotonou Agreement - a treaty between the EU and the ACP group - and is funded by the EU.
Open data has the potential to transform the agricultural sector and facilitate food security around the world. The CTA has been key in shaping the global discourse on open data in the agricultural sector since it began supporting the Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN) project in 2014. In their collaboration, CTA and GODAN are identifying open data champions and enabling new policies on open data for agriculture and nutrition with the aim of achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero hunger.
