Audio Data to retrieve memories

BBC publishes its sound effects

Recently, the BBC published their archive of sound effects. The sounds are ranging from the acoustic atmosphere of Bangkok Riverside to various birds' noises or the sounds of a café in Paris. The data is free to use for education, research and non-commercial purposes.

The actual driver behind the publication of sound effects is the BBC Reminiscence Archive (RemArc). The archive already contains large amounts of pictures and videos searchable by category or decade. RemArc is a tool designed to help trigger memories in people with dementia. Adding sound effects to the archive includes another powerful stimulation to support reminiscence therapy. Browse the BBC Reminiscence Archive or learn more about BBC Sound Effects Archive Resource.
