Solving climate change challenges with Open Data

The OpenDataHack2018 @ECMWF is a hackathon weekend on 9 and 10 June 2018 in Shinfield Park, United Kingdom for developers, designers, data journalists and data enthusiasts, interested in using information from open climate data to tackle climate change challenges. The aim of the hackathon is to discover the potential of open climate data and develop innovative ideas how Copernicus data at ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) can be re-used. The four goals are:

  • develop data-enhancing tools and services for climate monitoring (Hack-Vis and Hack-Data challenges);
  • develop web applications for policy- and decision-makers (Hack-Vis challenges);
  • create value-added services for specific public and commercial needs (Hack-Data challenge);
  • effectively communicate environmental or societal challenges to the public with the help of climate data (Hack-Out challenges).
