GODAN extends capacity development efforts

GODAN and other parties will continue support countries that are part of the 2017 Nairobi Declaration

In August 2019, Global Open Data for Agriculture & Nutrition (GODAN) committed to extending their capacity development efforts in countries that have signed - or plan joining - the 2017 Nairobi Declaration, a declaration that focuses on open data for agriculture and nutrition. The Executive Director of GODAN, Andre Laperriere, was in Nairobi to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GODAN partners, key players in international development, and representatives from the open data sector in the region, to cement this commitment. Examples of these partners, players and representatives are the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) and the Local Development Research Institute (LDRI).

In addition to supporting the Nairobi Declaration, MoUs like this one aim to:

  • pave the way for increased efforts in open data capacity development by supporting increased availability, access to, and use of open data in support of agricultural and nutrition initiatives,
  • help create an enabling environment for human capital development, and
  • support sustainable financing for the use of open data for development in Africa.
