A local initiative in England opens up data for residents and businesses
The borough Barking and Dagenham is "democratising data"
Barking and Dagenham asked residents what they like about their borough and got over 3,000 responses collected in the new Borough Manifesto. Together with Future Cities Catapult (FCC), an innovation lab in London, the borough is using a digital connector combining the datasets of the boroughs manifest to a digital index. Based on the index, the digital connector allows to track and visualise the borough's progress towards their goals for all to see.
"It's not solely designed to be an Open Data platform - it's taking the conversation we've had with residents, but then plugging that data into something that automatically updates and visualises itself, so that residents can understand how the borough is doing compared to our neighbours and the rest of London," said Pye Nyunt from Barking and Dagenham council: "what I believe we are doing is democratising data."
