EU Open Data Portal

Re-use data from the EU data portal

Can you hack European open data to solve societal challenges? Can you bring data together from different sources to building a working mobile or web application?

Sign up for EU Datathon 2017! Organised by the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the Publications Office of the European Union, the datathon promotes the reuse of data from the EU Open Data Portal. This portal gives access to open data made available by the institutions and agencies of the European Union.

The datathon kicks off in September with the registration of teams and ends on 16 November with the final event and awards ceremony in Brussels. The datathon is off-site: teams will work wherever they are in Europe (from mid-October to 12 November).

Teams will be able to demonstrate how open data from public institutions can be used to address specific policy or societal challenges and generate jobs and growth, reflecting certain priorities of the Juncker Commission:

  • new boost for jobs, growth and investment encouraging economic growth and job creation;
  • a connected digital single market creating opportunities via digital technologies;
  • a Union of democratic change increasing transparency.

The winning team will also have the chance to present their project at the European Big Data Value Forum in Versailles, 21-23 November 2017, with travel and accommodation expenses paid.

Register by 8 October! If your idea is preselected, you'll have 4 weeks to develop your idea. You can also register to attend the final event on 16 November 2017.
