The Connecting Europe Facility

CEF is organising several new data related initiatives and pushes the deadline for a new funding round to 25 June 2020

The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is a key EU funding instrument to promote growth, jobs, and competitiveness through targeted infrastructure investment at European level. It supports the development of high performing, sustainable and efficiently interconnected trans-European networks in the fields of transport, energy and digital services. The CEF investments fill the missing links in Europe's energy, transport and digital backbone.

Upcoming initiatives of the CEF focus on new funding rounds, building data infrastructure and digital (data) hubs in smart cities. The following initiatives are highlighted:

  1. The Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) has extended the submission deadline for the current CEF call for proposals until 25 June 2020. Over €10 million EUR is available for some CEF Building Blocks. This call offers support for eTranslation (€4 million), Blockchain (€3 million), eDelivery (€0.9 million) and eID & eSignature (€3 million).

A second call will open in June addressing open data.

  1. The CEF Context Broker and Big Data Test Infrastructure Building Blocks have published online content on strategic data usage to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CEF Context Broker provides the technical capabilities needed to turn widely collected data into real-time patient tracking, contagion maps and predictive analyses. 2. The CEF also organises a series of webinars with the theme ‘Empower your city with data’. If you’re a municipality or public administration eager to learn more about using data to make smarter decisions, several webinars are available for more information.
