Open Government Labs in Germany

The BMI in Germany is establishing 16 Regional Open Government Laboratories

On 20 and 21 September 2019, the 2nd edition of the Creative Bureaucracy Festival took place in Berlin, Germany. The event was attended by innovators from all levels of the Public Sector in Germany and abroad, including academics, government ministers and representatives from municipalities and international organisations.

At the event, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community (BMI) launched an initiative for Regional Open Government Laboratories. The initiative will establish up to 16 laboratories to test new collaborations between administrative bodies, politicians, citizens and social interest groups. In addition, this initiative aims to encourage people to participate in regional development and to facilitate a more open discussion and debate between local politics, citizens, external partners and interested stakeholders.
