Leeds Data Mill becomes Data Mill North
Last May, Leeds was already in the Latest News because of their exciting experiments in the field of data-driven health care. In these experiments, the local Open Data Portal 'Leeds Data Mill' plays a prominent role in bringing together the various concerned institutions. Following the success of this portal, neighbouring communities wanted to follow Leeds in this Open Data repository and work closely together to disclose as much Open Data as possible.
With the local communities aligning their Open Data policies, the Leeds Data Mill Portal announced to transform itself into a regional Open Data platform for the north of England. This August, the final touches of the migration were put in place to complete the transformation into Data Mill North. This new platform brings together catalogues from 41 local publishers, expanding the Leeds base to the wider region.
The joining of forces is expected to provide richer data for the digital community and to provide an extra momentum for the Open Data movement. It furthermore encourages local authorities to look over their traditional authority borders and explore what else can be shared and re-used for new services.
