The EU Datathon 2020 is open for applications

Innovating with EU open data during the 18th European Week of Regions and Cities

The EU Datathon is an annual open data competition organised by the Publications Office of the EU to promote the use of open data. The fourth edition of the EU Datathon 2020 addresses solutions to the future challenges for Europe with the use of open data. It will take place between 13 and 15 October in Brussels during the 18th European Week of Regions and Cities.

In order to participate, contestants should propose the development of an application that links and uses open datasets, of which at least one from the thousands made available by the EU institutions, agencies and bodies on the EU Open Data Portal. The application should propose a solution or an innovative approach to one of the four main challenges for the EU for 2020.

The main challenges are established by the European Commission as follows:

  1. A European Green Deal
  2. An economy that works for people
  3. A new push for European democracy
  4. A Europe fit for the digital age

In total, twelve teams (three per challenge) will be shortlisted and invited to present their profit or non-profit (social) business model at the EU Datathon 2020. The total prize fund amounts to 100,000 euros. Last year, the event attracted more than 9,000 people across the globe. Send in your application for the fourth edition of the EU Datathon with a short description by 3 May 2020.
